Credit transfer
Credit transfer from other higher education institutions can be used for prerequisite, general education, and nursing coursework.

  • Prospective students who wish to have their previous coursework evaluated for prerequisite requirements may have it done free of charge through the professional admissions office. The prerequisite evaluation request form is available at http://professional.osu.edu/profpdf/PrereqEval.pdf.
  • Prospective students who wish to have a complete evaluation of prerequisite and general education course work must be admitted as a transfer student to Ohio State. Applications are available on the Transfer Admissions website at http://undergrad.osu.edu/  or by calling (614) 292-3980.
  • Students seeking information regarding transfer applicability of non-nursing coursework from other Ohio academic institutions prior to applying to Ohio State may visit http://www.transfer.org.

Academic advisors are available at each campus to assist students in determining which transfer credit evaluation option best meets their needs. After a student is admitted to the College of Nursing RN to BSN option, previously earned coursework with a grade of C- or better will be applied toward required nursing courses. Any other non-nursing course work, not previously awarded credit, will also be evaluated at this time.

Credit through proficiency examinations
Proficiency exams or departmental exams are available for some courses. These examinations offer the student an opportunity to receive full course credit for knowledge gained through independent study and testing as an alternative to enrolling in the course. Individual departments determine the exams available. Students may visit the Office of Testing at http://www.ureg.ohio-state.edu/ourweb/tests/ or call the individual department to determine if a test is available.

For further information, students should contact the College of Nursing Student Affairs Office in 240 Newton Hall at (614) 292-4041 or the RN to BSN advisor at the main or regional campus.
