General education courses (GEC)
Every
undergraduate student at Ohio State must complete a body of coursework
that assures a broad acquaintance with the basic ares of academic
study. The College of Nursing, like other curricula, requires explicit
courses to meet this requirement.
Required nursing courses***
Students
admitted to the option must complete the a series of core nursing courses in
a fixed sequence. All courses have a didactic component that can be
accessed online through Carmen, the university’s course management
system. Two of the required courses have a clinical component which can
be completed near the student’s home. In addition, students must take a
minimum of one professional elective (five credit hours) to complete
the nursing requirements. This course can be taken any time prior to
graduation.
Students have the opportunity to complete one of the
clinical courses by proficiency exam, if previous experience in the
area can be documented. For additional information on credit through proficiency examination please visit the RN to BSN Admissions web page.
