A message from the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs
Welcome! You have been admitted to Pre-Nursing in the College of Nursing. Pre-Nursing will be your focus area while you complete prerequisite courses to the nursing major and apply to the program. Just as admission to the nursing major is competitive, so is entry to Pre-Nursing. You have been selected to be a Pre-Nursing student because of your performance on the college entrance exam or your history of success as a college student at another university. As a Pre-Nursing student, you have special opportunities and advantages that will encourage you to examine and cultivate your interest in nursing as a career.

Some Pre-Nursing students choose to make their home during freshman year in the Nursing Learning Community, which is located in the Park Hall residence hall. This is a wonderful opportunity to live with other Pre-Nursing students who share your interests and goals. To apply to live in the learning community please click here.

You will also be invited to attend a summer orientation for Pre-nursing students. The purpose of which is to help you plan for the coming year so that you will be prepared to submit a competitive application to the major between October 1, 2009 - February 1, 2010.
The grades that you earn as a Pre-Nursing student are extremely important to your successful admission to the nursing major. Use the academic resources that are available to you. Get to know your academic advisor and your instructors. Do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Admission to Pre-nursing does not guarantee a place in the nursing major. You must make yourself as competitive as possible by excelling in your coursework. You will compete for admission to the major against applicants from other majors and other universities. As a Pre-nursing student, I hope that you will take advantage of the opportunities available to you which will strengthen your application to the major.
I congratulate you on your admission to The Ohio State University and to Pre-Nursing. You have chosen a noble, rewarding, and challenging path. Good luck in the coming year.

Pre-Nursing Orientation Overview
The advising team is excited for the start of Pre-Nursing orientation. The advisors will help Pre-Nursing students schedule classes for the autumn quarter, share information pertaining to the Pre-Nursing program, and review the requirements for entry into the nursing major. Prior to day one of summer orientation please complete the Mathematics Skills Assessment. The score on the math assessment determines the beginning placement level in math and science for students. To prepare for the Mathematics Skills Assessment click here.
Throughout the Pre-Nursing orientation students will learn valuable information needed to prepare for the 2009-2010 academic year. At the end of orientation students will receive a copy of their autumn class schedule and a voucher to purchase "Three Cups of Tea" written by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. "Three Cups of Tea" was selected by the Buckeye Book Community based on the relevant issues in today's world.
