Candidates must meet the following admission requirements of both The Ohio State University Graduate School and the College of Nursing:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
from an accredited program at the time of enrollment in the graduate program or
licensure as an RN and graduation from an accredited baccalaureate program.
- Applicants who are registered nurses with a baccalaureate degree in a non-nursing field will only be admitted for winter quarter each year. Applications must be completed by November 1, or they will not be considered. If accepted for admission, these applicants must demonstrate or acquire proficiency in: (1) concepts and processes in population-focused nursing, and (2) concepts and processes for leadership in contemporary nursing practice. Proficiency may be demonstrated by coursework, work experience, or a proficiency exam. In lieu of demonstrated proficiency, students will be required to complete the undergraduate RN to BSN courses in population-focused nursing and/or leadership in nursing courses during the first winter and spring quarters before progressing to graduate courses.
- The Graduate School requires a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale in all prior undergraduate and graduate level coursework. (The average grade point average of applicants who are admitted to the program is above 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.)
- If an applicant has attended more than one university, all GPAs will be combined. This will occur after an applicant has applied online to the graduate school and all transcripts have been received.
- Competitive scores on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) from within the last five years are required of all graduate applicants. Scores at or near the 50 percentile in each area would be considered competitive. Consult with the appropriate specialty director regarding specific questions about the GRE.
- Completion of undergraduate coursework in health assessment, nursing research or research methods, and statistics. If not completed prior to admission, courses must be completed during the first quarter of graduate study.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language or International English Language Testing System requirements for international applicants from a non-English speaking country is:

- Graduate School application (Apply online at http://www.gradapply.osu.edu. Use the All Other Graduate Programs link at the bottom of this page.). Those previously enrolled in The Ohio State University’s Graduate School need to complete a Transfer Form in lieu of the online application.
- Disclosure of Convictions and/or Disciplinary Actions Form (Download PDF> Disclosure form)
- Current résumé/curriculum vita
- Purpose and goals statement, including a narrative discussion of professional experience, future scholarly endeavors, and career trajectory
- GRE General Test scores, if required (See bulleted reference in previous section above for further explanation)
- Transcripts from all previous universities attended. This includes transcripts for any post-secondary courses taken during high school. (Two copies) (Download PDF> Transcript request form)

In addition, based on Graduate Admissions Office guidelines, applicants with incomplete materials (including all transcripts and GRE, if needed) by the requested quarter of enrollment must complete a new online application and pay a new fee.
Applicants who wish to be considered for a University Fellowship must apply and submit all application materials by January 15th. (November 30 for International applicants.) A GRE score taken in the last 5 years is required for all Fellowship applicants.
